Flatten the Curve

I feel spurred on by Doreen’s post, these are definitely not ordinary times and like she said it is a time when we need to support one another.  So in the spirit of my mother (who would likely be making food baskets and giving away any toilet paper or hand sanitizer she had) here are a few of my thoughts for getting through your social distancing/self-isolation.

Stay connected.  Find ways to stay connected, virtual contact will be important.  I have been FaceTiming with my niece and it really raises my spirits.  For those who might not be able to do this, if you can pick up the phone or even write a letter.  Mail is still moving at this point so take advantage while you can.  A quick note could really brighten someone’s day.

Make something.  Many of you know that I have started to make jewelry.  It started as a way to help me focus and manage anxiety and depression.  It really is a great way to combat some of these feelings.  The sense of accomplishment at the end gives you a feeling of control in these uncertain times.  If you love baking, like I do, I am adding a link to a YouTube video for the easiest bread in the world (I will admit the presenter is a little over enthusiastic but it really is a great recipe).  Why not find out what your inner baker is like during this time. https://youtu.be/I0t8ZAhb8lQ

Be careful what you believe.  I now work in the Mental Health and Wellness field and there is a lot of information swirling around out there.  I recommend that you use the following as your guides.

World Health Organization

Center for Disease Control

Public Health Agency of Canada

Canadian Mental Health Association.

Stay safe.  Most of all make sure you stay safe.  Be prudent in your contact with others and understand what impact this could have.  We have many vulnerable populations we need to protect.

We all have a role to play. #flattenthecurve.
